Play with Friends

Make a room for your friends, invite them with a link, add bots and let others watch.

Four fighters going at it, each in their own hat, cape and trail.

Quick play or a party

Press Play on the join screen and you are in quick play: the game puts you in the open public room with the most players that still has space, or starts a new one. Quick play has no host. A room holds up to 8 players, humans and bots together.

A party is a room you make on purpose with "Create a party for friends". The person who creates it is the host, and the extras live there: adding bots, choosing the maps, letting late arrivals in, switching ghost votes on or off and starting a rematch.

Quick play always has ghost votes on. A room warms up on Classic first, then plays every other map once, in an order picked when the room is created.

What the host can do

The host picks the maps and whether ghosts vote, adds named bots and sets how strong they are, kicks bots, lets in people who joined mid-round, and starts the rematch.

Hosts can't kick human players, only bots. If the host leaves, the player who has been in the room longest becomes the new host.

Friends only need a link

Your friends open your link and press Join Party. They don't need an account, and there is no code to type. For a private party, the link is the only way in.

Every room has a link, quick play included, so you can bring friends into a quick-play match too. It just won't have a host.

Your region wins

A party lives on the server in the region where the host created it. Friends who join by link go to that server, whatever region they would normally play in, so a friend far away may notice more lag.

If the servers are full, you wait in line instead of being sent somewhere else. See the Servers page for what you will see.

Setting up

  • Create a party

Open the setup on the join screen, pick who can join, which maps and whether ghosts vote.

Joining

  • Invite friends with a link

Copy your match's link and send it. Your friend lands in your room, no sign-up needed.

  • Joining mid-round

Joined while a round is running? You watch until the next map, unless the host lets you in.

Bots

  • Bots

The host adds named bots, picks how strong they are and kicks them when needed.

Watching

  • Let others watch

Share a watch-only link. Spectators can vote on the Chaos Director's cards.
